Weekly Happenings: 6/25-7/1

An Nyoung (don't worry, I won't steal your frozen banana stand.)
It
is officially summer! The solstice has come and gone, and it is
legitimately warm outside; I won't say hot, because I am pretending
that I LOVE the heat and humidity in preparation for Ironman Louisville
in August, and this is honestly nothing compared to what those poor
guys in Kentucky are experiencing right now (I know, whose brilliant
idea was having an Ironman in August?)
While I'm on the subject, is anyone doing IMLoo? Or Waterloo? Or T-Rex?

Weekly Happenings: 6/18-6/25

Konnichiha,
I have no idea how to say "members" in Japanese, and it's not a very
popular question on the googles. However, I feel Japanese is
appropriate, as I am trapped in southwestern Indiana for work (Toyota.)
The good news is that I'm working night shift, so I have a good chance
to work out in the middle of the day in the heat. The bad news is I
don't have a bike, and thus can only run outside, leaving me prey to
the local fitness establishments. I may have completely overwhelmed the
receptionist at my chosen facility (called "Bob's") with my questions:

Weekly Happenings: 6/11-6/17

Tere Liikmed,
As I watch the Wings fight for the Stanley Cup, I can't help but think
about why I like our sport. Regardless of how fast or slow the
competition completes the course, triathlon is almost always about you
versus the course. The guy next to you may have trained more, but had
one too many bon bons the day before, so you prevail. Maybe next time,
the tables will be turned. Regardless, if you can't make it through the
course, it doesn't matter one way or the other. This is what I love
about triathlon - doing the best YOU can do on any given day.

Weekly Happenings: 6/4-6/10

Здравствуйте участники,

I'm sending the e-mail out a bit early this week because I want to make
sure you have a chance to actually read it before the brick (I know, I
know, not all of you are glued to your i-phone/crackberry like I am.)
So here's the good word for this week.

Ann Arbor Tri: The Ann Arbor Triathlon is this Sunday at Half
Moon Lake. I am sure many of you are racing, so I just want you to know
that the Tri Club has your back. We will again be setting up our tent

IMPORTANT: Brick Info

Members,

Check out today's brick route below. Also, start time will be 6, not 6:30. See you tonight.

Weekly Happenings: 5/21-5/27

Здравствуйте!
Just a few
painfully long weeks ago, the idea of a day in the 80's was nothing
more than an image burned into my mind...wait, make that leg, as the
number "25" is still burned into the back of my calf from the hottest
race ever in New Orleans. Now that the day has come, here in our fair
Michigan, I am thrilled. I'm ready to sweat; I'm ready to ditch the
sleeves; I'm ready to get my farmer's tan going; I'm ready for salt
tablets; most importantly, I'm ready to race.
Fortunately, that

Weekly Happenings: 5/14-5/20

Halló Medlem!
As you may already know, it is Bike to Work Week, and I am attempting to take part. However, being an unreasonable triathlete, I can't help but get the urge to drop the hammer as soon as I clip in. I am always beaming when I come clopping in, red-faced and encased in spandex and sweat. Perhaps my co-workers are less excited, but that's what the shower in the basement is (theoretically) for. Anyhow, I hope you are also logging some good miles. In the mean time, here's some reading for you about what's new with the club.

Weekly Happenings: 4/30-5/6

Ni hao! Xia Tian Quai Le (almost.)
Alright, so it's not actually xia tian (summer) yet, but we're getting
there. I know it's 45 and wet outside, but the trees have some leaves
and the black flies are out at the Poto. Just think, in a few weeks,
we'll be dusting off the wetsuits and hitting the lakes. Summer is only
a few fortnights away...(to be read in a dreamy, contended voice, while
smiling and thinking longingly of floundering about in Silver lake
while crazy rednecks throw sopping wet nerf footballs at your head and
submerge the buoys so you have nothing to sight.)

Weekly Happenings: 4/16-4/21

Hello Leden,
Lots of good stuff going on this week. Hopefully, you
will be able to make it to one of the great clean-up projects going on
in the next few weeks. In other news, the Spring Member Meeting is NEXT

Weekly Happenings: 4/9-4/15

Ahoj Členové,
I have returned from a successful race in New Orleans, and I have the
sunburns to prove it (my age is burned into the back of my calf.)
Despite my despair at the three inches of snow on the ground when I got
back, I am pumped up and ready to go. I do hope you will join me.
Here's the big news for this week:

Member Meeting
- The annual spring member meeting will be held on
April 23rd at the WCC Health and Wellness Center (4833 E Huron River
Dr, Ann Arbor) from 7-9 p.m. All club members, potential members, and

Members of the Year Challenge

After a two-year hiatus, we would like to reinstate the "Members of the Year Challenge" this year and I need your help.  What is the Members of the Year Challenge, you ask?  Well, simply put, it's a way of rewarding the most active members of the club with cool prizes at the end of the season.  In order to determine your score in the competition, I need you to tally your points and send them to me.  Here's how it works:

Adrienne's Transition Tips

  1. Don’t change clothes
  2. Once you have your system, do it the same way every time – including your transition towel layout
  3. If you can leave your bike shoes attached to the bike, it really saves time
  4. Look up some cyclocross videos for how to mount and dismount your bike while moving – start practicing at a walking pace and then gradually work to increase your speed.  Practice on soft grass in case you have a mishap!
  5. In T2, put on your running shoes first, then grab your race number belt and hat/visor.  Put that stuff on while you are moving.
  6. Focus!  D

Pokagon 2010 Race Report

Insanity is a relative term.  Most people would think that signing up for an Olympic distance triathlon in May in the Midwest is insane because lake temperatures are almost always frigid.  This year, eager for an early season race, I gambled with fate and signed up for the Pokagon Triathlon on May 22, 2010.  I enrolled in early May during a spate of unseasonably warm temperatures and it seemed like an easy bet that the clement weather would continue and the lake temperatures would quickly warm.  Shortly after signing up for the race, though, the weather turned cold and stayed that way for t

Bula uro,
The weather is great, there are races on the calendar, and
school is over. Finally, in concurrence with those t-shirts/tire
covers/hats, life is good, and it's time to really start
training.

Two Wheel Tango Cinco de Mayo Celebration - Many moons ago, the
citizens of the Mexican state of Puebla defeated the French. Now, we
celebrate this feat with margaritas, cheese dip, and discounts at our favorite bike store. Both the Jackson and Packard

2009 Traverse City Triathlon Report

I heard about the Traverse City Triathlon from a friend of mine last week and signed up just before the online registration deadline Thursday night.  Sadly, this meant that I missed out on the great TC Tri t-shirts that were included in the early bird race packets.  Sigh.  Next year I'll make sure to sign up on time...

DATT race report May 2008

  • Friday 5pm:  250m swim  5 mi. bike  1 mi run
  • Sat. 7:30am:  1500m swim  40k bike  6.55 mi run
  • Sat. 3pm:  40k bike 1500m swim  6.55 mi run
  • Sun. 7am:  1.2 mi swim  55.5 mi bike 13.1 mi run

I was nervous about doing this weekend of races.  The Triple T is actually 4 races in 3 days, covering roughly the ironman distance.
