Fri, 02/12/2010 - 08:13 — emilieLabdien,
Sorry I'm so late with my e-mail this week. I was out of
town for a few days, and still have not recovered. Whenever I go on a
business trip, my life gets thrown off, particularly in the three areas
over which triathletes obsess the most: sleeping, eating, and training.
Going to sleep at 12:30, waking up to ride the trainer at 5:30 (yes, I
am that person who lugs her bike and trainer on a business trip, much
to the confusion of my co-worker,) eating lunch at 4:00. It can be very
hard to stay motivated and focused. I found that, when locked in my

I realize my greeting this week is technically English,
or Scottish to be precise in "dialect," but I couldn't resist. My
latest addiction for passing the time during a jog, on my trainer, or
at my CAD tube at work are "Coffee Break Spanish" podcasts. I have
arbitrarily decided to brush up on my Spanish, and this is a pretty
easy and portable way to do so. What's great is that the narrators of
the podcast are Scottish. What's even more great is that they are
speaking Spanish Spanish (as opposed to Mexican or Puerto Rican Spanish

Winter has taken a foothold, but overall, we
really are getting off pretty easy this year. I hope you are all
staying warm and motivated. Here's some inspiration to get psyched up
about next season:

Last year, many members voted to get new kit. Now is the time to get a
design pinned down and go with it. However, my designs have evoked the

Whoowhee! My W2 just arrived, the semester is in full swing,
and the month is half over (don't know if that's a good or bad thing.)
Madness has ensued! I have found time and again that, if I can just get
out the door/into the water/onto the trainer, I feel so much better ten
minutes in. We have tons of stuff coming up over the coming weeks to
give you a chance to get going.

Wed, 01/06/2010 - 22:05 — emilieHappy New Year Members!
I hope you are all doing wonderfully so far
in this, the fourth day of a new decade! I, for one, certainly enjoyed
a little holiday hiatus, but races that were once "not 'til next year"
are suddenly within sight.
To kick off the year right, here is some news from our great sponsors,
followed by some tips/opportunities to get on with the resolving.

I had an eye opening experience this week. Because I no longer have any
sort of race to look forward to (read: looming over my head,) I have
been partaking in more casual workouts as of late. This includes
spinning at several of the local gymnasiums. After an intense trainer
ride on Sunday at Hyperfit, I wanted a quick recovery ride. I headed to
one of said gyms, struggling with a bad "case of the Mondays." I had
SPD shoes, a towel, and a bottle of water, but I was in no way prepared
for the class. Within the first 15 minutes, 75% of the class was

It's time to dig the Yak Trax out of the closet, and probably the
windbreaker, too. Despite all of my whining about the cold, I love
running in the snow (except when it's April snow.)
Last fall, Jon and I were training for the Phoenix marathon in January.
Our long runs were always scheduled for Sundays. One Saturday, I was
checking the forecast for the next day, knowing that we had somewhere
around 18 miles on tap. There was already snow on the ground, and the
low was predicted to be in the mid-twenties - hardly favorable
