Здравствуйте!
Just a few
painfully long weeks ago, the idea of a day in the 80's was nothing
more than an image burned into my mind...wait, make that leg, as the
number "25" is still burned into the back of my calf from the hottest
race ever in New Orleans. Now that the day has come, here in our fair
Michigan, I am thrilled. I'm ready to sweat; I'm ready to ditch the
sleeves; I'm ready to get my farmer's tan going; I'm ready for salt
tablets; most importantly, I'm ready to race.
Fortunately, that
time is drawing near. In the news this week: three races, and the
training to prepare for them. This e-mail is sooo long, I recommend
jogging in place while reading it. Then your warm-up will be finished.
Open Water Swim with EST
- Club sponsor EST events is putting on an open water swim on Saturday,
June 20th at 8:30 a.m. It is the perfect time to acknowledge your least
favorite discipline of triathlon (I'm not talking to you, Julie) and
practice. Here are the details:
Where: Portage Lake Beach, Waterloo Recreation Area, near Grass Lake, MI - on Seymour Road - get directions
Registration Fees: $15 pre-registered on or before June 18,
late registration is $20 June 19 and June 20. Entry fee includes snacks
after the swim and a stainless steel water bottle. Non-USAT member will
need to purchase a one-day license for $10. Register online or mail in.
Distances: 400M, 800M, or 1600M (twice around the 800 M course)
Course Description: The swim is a clockwise loop(s) in beautiful and calm Portage Lake.
This is a non-competitive event but we will have a clock running for those who want their time.
Park Info:
A State Park permit is needed to enter Waterloo Recreation Area. A
one-day permit can be purchased on race day at the park entrance. The
one-day park permit is $6.00 for residents of Michigan. Annual passes
may be purchased at any time.
Volunteer for Dexter to Ann Arbor - If
you are not running and will be in town next weekend, the Ann Arbor
Track Club could really use your help on the run course. Here are the
details:
-Commitment is 8:45-10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 31st
-E-mail Hal Wolfe at runlikehal@yahoo.com if you are available
Volunteer for Ann Arbor Tri Bike Course
- We REALLY need more people to volunteer for this. It's a few hour
commitment on Sunday, June 7th. Rather than suffering the abuse of a
race, cheer your fellow tri-clubbers on from the comfort of the street
corner. Also, it helps us get support from club sponsor Elite Endeavors
for the Kids' Tri. Did I mention you get a free t-shirt? Please, please
let Jon know if you can help: jonathan@aatriclub.org.
Race Reports - You may or may not realize that we have a whole
section of the website devoted to race reports. Trouble is, only
Adrienne and Adam have ever sent anything in. We would LOVE to get
feedback on any races you have done-good, bad, or otherwise-so others
can check them out. Please send reports to jonathan@aatriclub.org.
Feedback:
Thank you very much for all of your feedback. It's greatly appreciated.
Whenever you feel like expressing yourself, feel free to drop me a
line. This is your club, so tell us what you want.
And now, workouts:
Thursday, 21 May
Brick - OK, so we voted on a brick
route, and the winner was Lilly Park. Based on the survey results,
though, it turns out we don't really like Lilly Park, but do like Huron
River Drive. It also turns out that I like you all, and cannot turn you
loose on HRD because, 1) it's partially closed and is a beast to
access, and 2) is in horrific shape for the majority of our brick
route, including Zeeb. So I have a new plan.
Tomorrow, meet at 6:30 at Bandemer Park (1352 Lakeshore Dr, more info here) for the brick.
Maps will be provided. Route is around 19 miles for the bike, and is
the old run route (just with a new starting point.) For those of you
with a good sense of direction, you know that this is the little park
that we ran through on the old run route just before turning left to go
into Barton Hills.
Friday, 22 May
SWIM and Run- Crazy said what? That's right, I'm going swimming on
Friday at Silver Lake. Meet at 6:30 by the picnic tables close to the
second parking lot. Swim course is around 400 m out and back. Did I
mention wetsuits? You might want to bring that. Also, bring your
running shoes, and try your luck against the world-famous Pinckney deer
flies. You better run fast, or they'll getcha.
Morning Run Sponsored by Running Fit
- Club partner, Running Fit, sponsors a 6-8 mile run starting promptly
at 9:03 a.m. out of Gallup Park. Meet at the picnic tables in the
second parking lot (over the bridge.) If you have any questions about
weather, distance, etc., please contact our dashing workout
coordinator, Sean (seangeary@yahoo.com.)
Running Fit offers perks for showing up weekly, starting with a free water
bottle after 6 runs and working up to a free tech shirt after 18.
Sunday, 24 May
Outdoor Ride - Meet at 9 at Barton Park for a trek out to Chelsea.
Monday, 25 May
Something?? - It's Memorial Day, which means the Monday rest day is
foresaken and more training is in order. I'm thinking about another
bike ride, but have no definite plans. Maybe a second brick? E-mail me
if you're up for something, because I certainly am. I'll even have you
home in time for grilling.
Tuesday, 26 May
Tuesday Night Track Club Workout - Partake in the Track Club's speed
workout at the U of M outdoor track on State. Warm-up starts at 6:30, and workout
starts at 7:00. This week - 12 x 200 m; 200 m jog.
Drop-in cost is $5. Member cost is $2.
That's all for now. If you have any rants or raves, let me know.
