An Nyoung (don't worry, I won't steal your frozen banana stand.)
It
is officially summer! The solstice has come and gone, and it is
legitimately warm outside; I won't say hot, because I am pretending
that I LOVE the heat and humidity in preparation for Ironman Louisville
in August, and this is honestly nothing compared to what those poor
guys in Kentucky are experiencing right now (I know, whose brilliant
idea was having an Ironman in August?)
While I'm on the subject, is anyone doing IMLoo? Or Waterloo? Or T-Rex?
There are so many races these days, it's hard to keep up, but if you
are looking for a training buddy, a carpool, or just a familiar face
cheering you on, let us know! I'll cheer for anyone in an Ann Arbor
shirt, but I'd love to get to know who you are.
Thanks again to everyone who went out to Johan's last weekend! We had a pretty good showing, and some great finishes.
Speaking
of races where I hope to see a HUGE showing from all of you wonderful
members, check out what's on the docket this week:
Triceratops Tri - TOMORROW (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. at
Island Lake State Park in Brighton. This sprint distance race is put on
by lovely club sponsor, RunningFit. There is a plethora of
inflatable dinosaurs, dinosaur trophies, dinosaur swim-course markers,
and more dinosaurs doing who knows what else! This race is great for
first timers, as it is relatively short, in a park (read: less likely
to be run over and better roads,) and is one of a series of three
(dinosaur-themed) races with the exact same course, making it a great
way to track your progress through the season.
If you don't have a state park pass, be sure to bring cash, and arrive
early, as admittance to the park can be a bit hectic when a big event
like this takes place. As far as I know, it is not yet sold out, and
race day registration is allowed. Check out the details here.
Kensington Triathlon - I KNOW you will be at Kensington
Metro Park in Milford to represent the club at this sprint and help us
get a foothold in the chase for the MERCRS cup. For all intents and
purposes, this is the only "local" race (kudos to those who decided
that two hours away for Johan's was "local") so we must take advantage
of it.
Race is this Sunday, June 28th, at 8:15. More information can be found here.
We
will, of course, have the tent there with extra tubes, a bike pump,
etc., plus post-race refreshments and fun. We will even have a massage
therapist for free massages for club members. I also plan to bring
fruit and tasty beverages; feel free to bring whatever you like. The
tent is also a great place for friends and family to hang out while
they wait for you to come screaming through the finish chute. Let me
know if anyone needs a ride, a bike lift, or whatever. We are happy to
help (I keep using the word "we"; please take this to be the board and
very supportive member group, not the Royal We. Your president does not
think that highly of herself.)
And now, for the workouts.
Thursday, 25 June
Brick - Brick is at Huron Bridge Park. Meet in the second parking lot, and be ready to ride at 6. Here
is the route, less dirt roads. Bike is ~26.3 miles and main run loop is
1.5
miles. There is also a lovely route around Argo Pond for a 2.5 mile
jaunt in the nature and such. If you are worried about the distance of
either leg, please let me know, and
I'll do what I can to find an alternate route (though I'm not making an
promises you won't end up on a dirt road or someone's yard, because I
don't know the area
that well.)
Friday, 26 June
Swim and Run - Come join us for a swim in Silver Lake
(map here.)
Meet
at
6:30 by the picnic tables close to the second parking lot. Swim
course is a quarter-mile out and back. The water is downright pleasant;
I don't even scream or cry when I get in anymore (just kind of let out
a whimper.) I don't know the actual temp, but you will be fine without
a wetsuit. Bring your
running shoes, and try your luck against the world-famous Pinckney deer
flies. You better run fast, or they'll getcha.
Saturday, 27 June
Morning Run Sponsored by Running Fit -
Club partner, Running Fit, sponsors a 6-8 mile run starting promptly at
9:03 a.m. out of Gallup Park. Meet at the picnic tables in the second
parking lot (over the bridge.) If you have any questions about weather,
distance, etc., please contact our dashing workout coordinator, Sean (seangeary@yahoo.com.)
Running Fit offers perks for showing up weekly, starting with a free
water bottle after 6 runs and working up to a free tech shirt after 18.
Sunday, 28 June
Outdoor Ride
- No formal ride, as YOU SHOULD BE AT KENSINGTON, donning blue and green. :-D However, if you must, feel free to set something up (or just go jump on those Velo Club guys who are always around town...they love TT bikes.*)
Tuesday, 30 June
Tuesday Night Track Club Workout
- Partake in the Track Club's speed workout. BACK TO NEW/NEW LOCATION: Workout
is back at Gallup Park this week; meet at the wooden bridge. Warm-up starts at 6:30, and workout starts
at
7:00. Gallop alternating 400 m (12x fast) – 1 mile each way.
Workout is free to Track Club members.
That's all for now. If you have any questions, concerns, complaints, etc., let me know. That's what I'm here for.
Em
*The members of the Velo Club are lovely people, and I bear no ill-will towards them (except for that one guy.**)
